Jockette Carol Cedeño at Tampa Bay Downs

I recently had the chance to spent a morning at Tampa Bay Downs photographing jockette Carol Cedeño and her family for a feature story by Puerto Rico newspaper El Nuevo Dia. Cedeño, 23, is married to fellow jockey Angel Serpa and returned to racing just a few months after giving birth to her son, Dylan. I love spending time in the stables of a horse track. And being able to watch Cedeño walk through the stables with her two young children made this trip especially memorable. I photographed Cedeño on her morning ride and then headed to the paddock for a few family portraits. Clearly, horse racing is in this family’s blood so I’m looking forward to seeing her daughter, Angelika, and Dylan in the saddle in the not too distant future. In the meantime I’ve got a couple of new favorite jockeys to keep an eye on at Tampa Bay Downs.
